About us

The history behind the successful Path Out of Poverty (POP) programme which is run by a registered South African charity called The Goedgedacht Trust (the word Goedgedacht means “Good Ideas” or “Well Considered” in old Dutch).
INTRODUCTION
The Goedgedacht Trust runs a rural development Centre; 87 km north of Cape Town, South Africa, on the slopes of a small mountain range called the Kasteelberg. This old and beautiful Cape Dutch farm, dating from 1704 is 171 ha in extent.
The Trust is registered in South Africa as a Charitable and Educational Trust (T965/93) in terms of the Non Profit Organisations Act (No.006/582) and as a Public Benefit Organisation (No 930 001 106).
The Trust was registered in 1993. The flagship programme of the Trust , “The Path out of Poverty” Programme for farm workers and their children ( POP) started in 1998 and celebrated its 10th anniversary on 31st January 2009.
