Care for the Earth

Living in harmony with nature.
There is an increasing awareness of the fragility and vulnerability of the Earth. Our life-giving planet is under threat and there are signs that we need to change our lifestyles, especially the way we use energy. Climate change and global warming are receiving increasing attention; experts predict that unless we change our behaviour quickly, the Earth will become an increasingly hostile environment to live in.
As such, POP believes in teaching all children on the POP programme the importance of respecting the Earth. In addition, we try to teach behaviour that will renew and sustain our planet. Our hope is to rear a generation of children who understands the importance of looking after the Earth and who learns to live in harmony with nature.
To this end, POP provides:
- Runs workshops on climate change for POP children
- Has constructed a Climate Change Path, which explains important words associated with global warming
- Plants olive trees, which can withstand drought and intense heat
- Works with the farming parents of the POP children, encouraging them to plant crops that can survive heat and drought
- Aims to offset the carbon footprint by planting bushes, such as the spekboom, which absorb harmful carbon dioxide and store it in the ground.
